Unlike ordinary maps or planning drawings, a Land Registry Compliant Map is specifically created to show property boundaries in a way that’s accepted by the Land Registry. It includes key details like:

- Reference to the relevant folio number (the unique identifier for registered land)
- Scale and orientation

For multi unit developments like Apartments, duplexes and flats, the map would also need to be accompanied by a specially marked up Floor Plan.

If your property isn’t already registered, or if you’re updating the registration (for example, after a boundary change), you’ll need a Land Registry Compliant Map to submit with your application.

Solicitors often require an up-to-date Land Registry Map as part of the conveyancing process. This ensures that everyone agrees on the boundaries and there are no disputes later.
3. Subdividing or Transferring Part of a Property
If you’re splitting a site, gifting land, or selling part of your property, you’ll need a map that clearly shows the new boundaries.
4. Consolidating Two or More Folios
If you are combining two ore more folios into one folio, you’ll need a new Land Registry Map showing the new boundaries.
What Makes a Map “Compliant”?
Not every map will do the job. Tailte Eireann has strict requirements on scale, detail, and how boundaries are marked. A compliant map must be:
- Drawn to the correct scale (usually 1:1000 or 1:2500 for rural areas)
